SEFFNER - Joe Cartwright and Billy Farrell each hit three-run home runs and Armwood got contributions from its entire lineup in a mercy-rule shortened 14-4 victory against Tampa Bay Tech on Tuesday afternoon.

All nine Armwood starters reached base and seven either scored a run or drove one in to help the Hawks (7-1) pick up another Class 5A-District 8 win.

"The guys came out there with a good approach and kept hitting and doing what they were supposed to do," Armwood coach Mike Wrenn said.

Cartwright's first-inning blast staked the Hawks to an early 3-1 lead, and Farrell's fifth-inning homer gave the Hawks a commanding 13-4 advantage. Farrell (four RBIs) and Cartwright each had two hits and also scored twice.

Zack Powers added two hits, two RBIs and scored twice, and Khiri McQuay reached base all four times, scored three runs and ended the game with an RBI single in the sixth.

Santiago Lopez hit a solo homer and Devron Drayton had a two-run single to pace the Titans (1-8), who lost their eighth straight.

Big Fourth Inning Powers Hillsborough

TAMPA - Tyler Luper and Marlon Mitchell each homered in a nine-run fourth inning as Hillsborough (4-3) won its third straight with a 10-3 win against Jefferson in a Class 5A-District 10 matchup at Billy Reed Field.

"That's actually our third time in three games we had a big inning," Hillsborough coach Kenny White said. "We put up nine against Chamberlain in one inning, eight against Blake, and then nine again tonight. We'll just keep it rolling. I'd like to see it more inning-by-inning scoring some runs, but trust me, we'll take it."

Luper (3-for-3) started the fourth-inning onslaught with a solo homer and added an RBI single just before Mitchell's three-run shot capped the big inning. In between, Jay Laurienzo (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Dylan Esche each had RBI singles, and Nick Matezos and David Richardson each brought home runs with successful squeeze bunts.

Mitchell also tossed five solid innings to pick up the win, striking out six and allowing only four hits and two runs, those coming on Jeff Mills' two-run homer in the fourth. Tim Blackmon added an RBI double in the sixth for the Dragons (4-4), who dropped their fourth straight.

BENTON REINSTATED: Spoto baseball coach Larry Benton, who was suspended while the school investigated three separate undisclosed incidents, has been reinstated, Spoto Principal Clyde Trathowen said in an e-mail Wednesday.
