A two-month-old case is finally solved, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies arrested Jacinto Martinez, 68, of Tampa, on Monday and charged him with leaving the scene of a crash and tampering with evidence.
Martinez was driving a 1992 Dodge conversion van when he struck a pedestrian at Hulsey Road and Waters Avenue just before 7 p.m. on Dec. 23, deputies said. A surveillance camera captured an image of the vehicle, and deputies found the van near 3926 W. Osborne Ave. on Monday, sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. Martinez admitted he was driver when he was questioned by deputies, Carter said.
The victim, 25-year-old Allonzo Tambriz, was struck by two other vehicles and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with critical injuries, deputies said.
Specifics about injuries are not known.
