SARASOTA - A morning garage fire at a home in the 4100 block of Webber Street had firefighters scrambling to save the family cat.
Three people who were renting the home escaped uninjured.
A Sarasota sheriff's helicopter pilot spotted smoke from the air as it poured out of the eaves of the home.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire damage and in the process discovered the family cat overcome by smoke. Firefighters spent several minutes giving the cat oxygen then rushed it to a nearby vet.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
