A Lakeland man accused of trying to kidnap his estranged wife at gunpoint this week was arrested today in Pinellas County, authorities say.
Working with the U.S. Marshals Service, Polk County deputies arrested Christopher Lee Harris, 37, without incident. He was wanted on a warrant for charges including aggravated assault and attempted armed kidnapping, the sheriff's office said.
On Monday morning, Harris' estranged wife was walking to the front door of her Lakeland home when Harris ran out from behind bushes, waved a silver handgun at her and ordered her back into her vehicle, the sheriff's office said.
When she refused, Harris grabbed her, the sheriff's office said. The woman screamed and her mother, who was in the house, called 911. Harris left.
Harris was released from the Polk County Jail on $20,000 bail on Feb. 20 in connection with felony aggravated assault and felony domestic battery charges from July, records show. The case is pending.
