ORLANDO - A suicide note recovered from the car of Caylee Anthony's grandfather will not be made public as part of the discovery process in the murder trial of the slain toddler's mother, a judge ruled today.
Circuit Judge Stan Strickland decided that George Anthony's suicide note has nothing to do with the prosecution of his daughter, Casey Anthony. She is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter, Caylee.
George Anthony was taken to a hospital in January over concerns that he may have been suicidal. He went missing from his Orlando home for several hours and was found checked into a Daytona Beach motel with bottles of medication and photos of his wife and daughter. Authorities said he had been sending despondent text messages from his cell phone.
Casey Anthony appeared in court for today's hearing on motions about evidence in the case, along with her parents, George and Cindy Anthony.
Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, asked the judge to issue sanctions against prosecutors for failing to disclose to the defense that they had hired an insect expert and a botanist to assist them — and that those experts had been sent evidence for examination. The judge denied their request.
Anthony is accused by authorities of killing her daughter, Caylee, whose remains were found in woods in Orlando last December, six months after the child's disappearance. Her first-degree murder trial has been tentatively set for Oct. 12.
Casey Anthony has said a babysitter kidnapped Caylee.
