TAMPA - The family of an Odessa horse racing aficionado and businessman found slain in his home in October offered a $20,000 reward today for information leading to his killer.
A business associate of Lawrence P. Higgins, 61, found Higgins dead in his home at 11523 Trotting Down Drive on Oct. 8. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said he died of trauma; investigators offered no other details.
Records show that Higgins owned a few businesses, including Icarus Aircraft Inc., a company that used blimps as airborne billboards.
Today, the sheriff's office announced the reward on behalf of Higgins' family.
Detectives are seeking information about two vehicles seen in the area around the time Higgins died. One is a champagne-colored pickup with dual rear wheels, tinted windows and an extended cab. The other is an orange older-model Nissan or Datsun with a loud muffler.
Anyone with information about the vehicles or the slaying is asked to call the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200.
