L.T. Glad To Stay In S.D.

SAN DIEGO - Chargers president Dean Spanos seemed to have the best perspective on the LaDainian Tomlinson saga.

"The alternative was just unthinkable. He belongs in San Diego," Spanos said after the Chargers and Tomlinson agreed to a reworked three-year deal late Tuesday.

L.T. feels the same way. That's because the alternative, of course, would have been for the star running back to be released had the sides not reached a deal. Even as talks dragged on and speculation mounted that the 2006 NFL MVP might be finished in San Diego, Tomlinson never envisioned joining another team.

"I still maintained the belief that I would be a Charger," Tomlinson said at a news conference Wednesday. "They drafted me here and I've been here for eight years and loved every minute of it, and I just couldn't see myself putting on another uniform."

Judge: Vick Must Attend Hearing

NORFOLK, Va. - Fallen NFL star Michael Vick must appear at a bankruptcy hearing next month but should pay his own way from the Kansas prison where he is serving time for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy, a judge ruled Wednesday.

At an hourlong hearing, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank J. Santoro rejected the government's suggestions that he either postpone Vick's April 2 bankruptcy confirmation hearing or allow the suspended player to testify by video hookup from the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kan.

BROWNS: Released wide receiver Joe Jurevicius, who missed last season after getting a staph infection in his right knee.

Jurevicius, who played for the Bucs during their Super Bowl season, played two seasons for his hometown Browns.

CHIEFS: Cut quarterback Quinn Gray, who played in one game for the team last season.

EAGLES: Signed safety Rashad Baker to a one-year contract.

JETS: Signed former Patriots and Dolphins linebacker/special teams standout Larry Izzo.

PANTHERS: Released starting cornerback Ken Lucas in a move that clears about $2.3 million in salary-cap space.

PATRIOTS: Signed free-agent cornerbacks Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden.

RAMS: Signed two free agents, giving safety James Butler a four-year contract and adding veteran fullback Mike Karney. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

REDSKINS: Re-signed safety Reed Doughty.

STEELERS: Offensive tackle Willie Colon is returning to the team after signing a one-year contract with the Super Bowl champions.

VIKINGS: Re-signed Jimmy Kennedy, providing the team with insurance at defensive tackle. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LEGAL: The son of famed football announcer John Facenda has settled a lawsuit with NFL Films over the brief use of his father's voice in a show about the John Madden video game.

Facenda's contract with NFL Films barred the use of his distinctive baritone - sometimes called "the Voice of God" - for product endorsements.

The NFL called a cable TV show on the 2006 Madden game an artistic endeavor. But a federal appeals court last year ruled it commercial.

The suit was settled last month for an undisclosed sum.

BOZ CHARGED: Former NFL player-turned-actor Brian Bosworth has been charged with drunk driving after being arrested in Hollywood last Friday.
