HOLIDAY - Five Pasco County firefighters and paramedics have been recognized for rescuing two people from a burning home.
Pasco County commissioners recently honored Todd Pierce, captain-paramedic; David Miller, driver-engineer-emergency medical technician; James Schultz, firefighter-paramedic; Philip Larkin, firefighter-emergency medical technician; and Ben Oliver, firefighter-emergency medical technician.
An alarm went out for a fire at Holiday Lake Estates at 2:33 a.m. Aug. 17. Within six minutes, the engine company and rescue company from Station 12 arrived. Despite heavy smoke, the rescuers found the first person lying unresponsive on the kitchen floor and moved her outside to start advanced life support.
The emergency workers then went back in the house with a thermal-imaging camera, found a second person unconscious in a bedroom and evacuated him.
"Both teenage victims are alive today and have been provided the opportunity to enjoy the rest of their lives because of the quick response, tactical decisions, and strategic actions" of Station 12 personnel, the proclamation states.
