The Florida Highway Patrol is working to identify a person killed in a crash on Brandon Boulevard near Lithia Pinecrest Road on Friday after a van hit two utility poles and caught fire.
The impact caused a chain reaction with several cars parked nearby and closed Brandon Boulevard for hours.
Troopers said a Plymouth van was westbound on Brandon Boulevard in the outside lane about 9:20 p.m. when it veered off the roadway, striking a utility pole.
The impact spun the van clockwise, smashing it into a second utility pole; then it overturned and burst into flames, troopers said.
The collision with the first pole knocked the pole into a parked 1987 Toyota pickup and the power cables onto a 1994 Volvo. The careening Plymouth and debris from the collision hit five other parked vehicles, troopers said.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews had to wait for Tampa Electric Co. workers to shut off the power to the downed lines before extinguishing the fire.
Law enforcement said three cars and two structures caught fire as well. There were no other injuries.
