TAMPA - Detectives on Sunday searched a wooded area near U.S. 301 where a man looking through a trash dump found human bones.

The man found the bones Saturday afternoon off Surona Road, east of U.S. 301 in southern Hillsborough County, according to the county sheriff's office. Detectives determined the remains were human.

The medical examiner took custody of the bones Sunday and will try to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.
