TAMPA - The federal government is seeking to shut down a Port Richey tax preparation firm, saying its owner may have filed for as much as $6 million in bogus deductions.
The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil injunction Monday against Frank Lighty and his firm Lighty & Associates Inc., 8816 Huntsman Lane, seeking to have them permanently barred from preparing federal income taxes forms.
The complaint says Lighty claimed false or inflated deductions for medical expenses, charitable contributions and other deductions.
In one instance, the complaint states, a customer provided Lighty with a receipt for $2,500 in charitable contributions, but he claimed for $13,000.
