SPRING HILL - - Two high school students have been arrested on charges that they deliberately set fire to a girlfriend's house.
Authorities say Daniel Murray, 18, and another 17-year-old suspect, broke into the house at 9010 McCormick St. last Thursday and started a fire with stolen gasoline.
The juvenile, who is not being named because of his age, told investigators he started the fire because he did not want his girlfriend to live with her roommates. Only one woman was home at the time of the fire, but she was awakened by the smoke detector and was able to escape.
Officials estimate the fire caused about $1,000 worth of damage. The youngest suspect was burned on his right leg when the gasoline ignited.
Detectives cracked the case on Tuesday with the arrest of the juvenile, who admitted to setting the fire and also implicated Roberts, according to a report. Both are students and football players at Nature Coast Technical High School.
The two were arrested Tuesday on charges of arson and residential burglary. They were also charged with burglary for reportedly stealing gasoline from an unlocked shed near the scene of the fire.
