TAMPA - The St. Pete Times Forum was No. 1 in the world for gross ticket sales during a recent 31-day period, according to an industry trade publication.

Venues Today reports that the Forum grossed more than $6 million from Jan. 16 to Feb. 15 thanks to several events surrounding the Super Bowl. The Tampa-based facility outpaced even larger venues.

The month prior, the Forum was No. 1 in gross ticket sales in the United States.

"This is terrific news for the St. Pete Times Forum and the community of Tampa Bay; We thank our fans for the support they have shown us despite today's economic times," says Oren Koules, the Forum's chief executive office in a written statement.

As part of the venue's "Super Week", Celine Dion, The Eagles and Dane Cook all performed at the Forum in the days leading up to the Tampa-hosted Super Bowl XLIII. All three shows were ranked in the Top 15 grossing events taking place worldwide from mid-January through mid-February based on their ticket grosses, according to Venues Today.

Venues Today also reported the Forum as the top grossing arena (15,001 seats and above) for 2008 in the state of Florida.

Ticket sales across 80 shows held at the venue generated over $31 million gross with 462,040 patrons attending concerts and family shows throughout the year.

This is the second year running that the publication has published a spotlight on Florida venues and the second consecutive year that the Forum has secured the No. 1 spot for the state.
