PUNISHER: WAR ZONE
The third time still isn't the charm for this comic-book adaptation, unless your idea of charm is relentless slaughter with minimal plot - in which case box office tallies would suggest that you are not alone, Mr. Adolescent Male. Thomas Jane and John Travolta did not return for the gross-out retread; in this incarnation, vigilante hero Frank Castle is played by Ray Stevenson (of HBO's "Rome"). His nemesis, Jigsaw, is Dominic West of "The Wire" in grotesque makeup. R, 101 minutes

ELEGY
Ben Kingsley is a venerable professor who counts the serial seduction of much younger students among the perks of his job in this adaptation of a novel by Philip Roth. His latest conquest is played by Penelope Cruz - because if a guy is going to indulge his post-middle-age fantasies, why not dream big? The illustrious cast also features Patricia Clarkson as Kingsley's longtime mistress and Dennis Hopper as the friend who tries to be the voice of reason. R, 108 minutes
