Sheriff Hires Administrative Officer

NEW PORT RICHEY - Sheriff Bob White has hired former Florida Highway Patrol chief of staff Christopher Nucco as captain of administration.

Nucco, whose law enforcement background includes being a police officer in Fairfax County, Va., and Philadelphia, also is a former top aide to former House Speaker Marco Rubio, a Miami Republican.

Nucco will be paid $92,323 annually, the same as the sheriff's other captains, said department spokesman Kevin Doll.

In addition to serving as Rubio's deputy chief of staff, his previous positions include staff director for the Office of Procedures and Policy for the House of Representatives.

Nucco has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, a master's degree in public administration and undergraduate certificate of emergency management, according to a memorandum White issued this week announcing the hiring.

At the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, Nucco joins another former chief of staff to Rubio, contract attorney Richard Corcoran, who represents White in union matters and employment issues.

Also, Jeremiah Hawkes, former House general counsel under Rubio, was hired this year as White's staff attorney.

Nucco's duties will include overseeing property and evidence, data services, court process, forfeiture, communications and agency projects. He fills a captain's slot created by the sheriff's plan to split west Pasco into two patrol districts, effective April 1.

About two-thirds of the agency's calls for service originate from the area west of U.S. 41, and reorganization is intended to make more efficient use of staff.
