MANATEE COUNTY - A Palmetto business owner was beaten Wednesday night after he pursued a burglar who was stealing a boat and trailer from his lot, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
The owner of Manatee Mobile Marine, Raymond T. Corda Jr., returned to the business located at 3806 U.S. 41 N. around 11 p.m. Wednesday because the alarm was set off.
When Corda, 53, arrived, he saw a truck pulling a boat and trailer from his lot onto U.S. 41 North and followed it onto Interstate 275, the report said.
The person stopped about a mile later and began to unhook the boat on the shoulder of the interstate.
Corda, who was on the phone with deputies, lost the phone connection but continued to confront the person, according to a report.
By the time a deputy showed up, Corda was lying in the roadway next to the boat and trailer and could not describe the would-be burglar.
Corda suffered a cut on his head and bruising about his face, the report said.
