PODS Adds Staff
Clearwater storage company PODS Enterprise said it has added 116 employees as it adjusts to an increase in moving and storage demand from customers looking for alternatives to traditional services. The new hires are earning $35,000 to $50,000 and primarily are call center workers, the company said.
CEO Salary Aired
The chairman and chief executive of Florida utility TECO Energy Inc. received compensation valued at $3.9 million in 2008, about the same he made during the previous year, according to an Associated Press calculation of figures disclosed Wednesday in a regulatory filing.
The Tampa-based company paid Sherrill W. Hudson an $826,189 base salary and awarded a performance-based bonus of $574,928. Hudson, 66, also received stock and option awards valued at $2.4 million on the days they were granted as well as compensation for additional living and travel expenses.
IBM Eyes Sun
IBM Corp. is in talks to buy Sun Microsystems Inc. for at least $6.5 billion cash, a deal that would shake up Silicon Valley and the corporate computing market, The Associated Press has learned.
A person familiar with the situation told the AP of the negotiations, confirming a report Wednesday in The Wall Street Journal.
Prices Jump
Consumer prices rose in February by the largest amount in seven months as gasoline rates surged again and clothing costs jumped the most in nearly two decades. The Labor Department reported Wednesday that consumer inflation rose 0.4 percent in February but that core inflation, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.2 percent in February.
