Polk Brush Fire Now Under Control

Residents evacuated because of a Polk County brush fire are now allowed back home.
The brush fire near Tiger Woods Creek off Highway 60 had firefighters worried because the area has a lot of dead wood and vegetation and many homes were tucked into the woods.
Firefighters quickly issued a reverse 911 call for evacuations for all residents in the Tiger Creek Forest area. The fire eventually spread to 50 acres and destroyed a shed but appears to have spared the homes.
The fire call cmae in at 12:42 p.m. and was considered under control shortly after 2:30 p.m. At one point, it threatened nearly 70 homes.
The Division of Forestry said the fire's cause was accidental but has not released further details.
