If you earn $42,000 or less, you can get free federal tax preparation help today at several area locations. Volunteers in coordination with the Internal Revenue Service will also offer other free IRS services for anyone who needs it.
To find volunteer offices, go to IRS.gov and type in keyword Super Saturday or call 1-800-906-9887 and ask for a local volunteer tax assistance site.
If you go, here's a list of items the IRS says you'll need:
•Valid driver's license or photo identification.
•Social Security cards and dates of birth for all people listed on the return.
•All income statements (Forms W-2 and 1099, Social Security and unemployment benefit statements, self-employment records and any documents showing taxes withheld).
•Dependent child care information, including the child care provider's identification number, name and address.
•Proof of an account at a financial institution for direct debit or deposit (for example, a cancelled check or bank statement).
• Prior year tax return (if available).
• Any other documents needed to prepare the tax return.
