My wife and I have seen the worse drought imaginable in the Las Vegas area. Lake Meade, the prime water supply for approximately 2 million people, has dropped almost 200 feet over the past 10 years. Their drought is very serious, as rainfall is almost nonexistent and they are in the middle of a desert.
Residents in the Tampa Bay area need to conserve their water supply now. It might be too late when most people wake up to the fact that our drought is now in the serious stage. Las Vegans have not learned yet, but the few million people who call this area home need to strategize now. I save at least 20 gallons per day. I am a retired math teacher and say it would be millions per day if everyone did their part.
Last week a "Join the Discussion" writer said turn the faucet off when shaving or brushing your teeth. The water does not need to be on. When I take a daily shower, I catch gallons and use it to flush my toilet. Your air conditioner has a drip pipe outside near the unit. I get about five gallons per day from it and also use it to flush a toilet.
Are you doing the math yet? When our faucets can only drip water, it's too late. Let's do the right thing for ourselves and our families. We owe it to each other.
