PALM HARBOR - Both Steve Stricker and Nick Watney posted second-round 67s out of Friday's morning tee times to move into a share of the PGA Tour's Transitions Championship at Innisbrook Resort.
Stricker and Watney joined first-round leader Jim Furyk at 6 under. Furyk began his second day with an afternoon start.
Stricker, ranked No. 15 in the World Golf Rankings, played the day with four birdies and no bogeys. Watney, second to Phil Mickelson in last week's World Golf Championship at Doral, did likewise.
"I hit a lot of greens in regulation,'' Stricker said. "I had a lot of opportunities. I didn't putt particularly well, but again I had a lot of opportunities, and didn't have a blemish on the scorecard, which is always a good thing, especially around here.''
Watney, 27, is trying to earn his second career PGA Tour title since leaving Fresno State.
"Yesterday the wind was much trickier,'' Watney said. "It was up a little bit, and blowing kind of from all different directions all day.
"Today, it was calm this morning and fairly consistent in the afternoon. So also, the greens are a bit firmer, obviously, later in the day.''
