Two women in a stolen vehicle led police on a chase that ended only after the getaway car struck and seriously injured a pedestrian, collided with a patrol car and then hit two civilian vehicles, authorities said.
Both suspects are in custody. Their names were not immediately released.
Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said they got a call around 7:30 p.m. of a suspicious vehicle in the Gibsonton area. Deputies responded and spotted the vehicle, determining that it had been stolen and used in other crimes in the Gibsonton area over the past few days, deputies said.
At Nundy Avenue and U.S. 41, deputies tried to pull the car over, but the driver sped off and headed north on Interstate 75. It exited at the State Road 60 exit and headed east.
The vehicle then struck an unidentified adult male walking across State Road 60 at Lakewood Drive. The pedestrian, whose name was unavailable, was taken by ambulance to Tampa General Hospital. His condition was serious, deputies said.
The vehicle then hit a patrol car and two civilian cars, deputies said.
The two women in the car were taken into custody. They were not injured, deputies said.
