Innisbrook's courses may be owned by the pros this weekend, but more than 1,000 Tampa Bay-area children took to the links on Wednesday.
The field trip was part of Youth Wellness Day at the Transitions Championship For Healthy Sight, a PGA Tour event at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor.
Elementary school-age children attended a swing clinic with professional coach Matt Killen and sports vision expert Larry Lampert. They also had the opportunity to play vision-related games and undergo vision screenings.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology estimates that more than 12 million children in the United States today suffer from some form of eye impairment. The organization recommends annual eye appointments for children starting at age 3.
The Neumours Foundation offers parents some clues that may identify eye problems including: constant eye rubbing; extreme light sensitivity; poor focusing; problems following a moving object; abnormal alignment or movement of the eyes (older than 6 months); chronic eye redness or tearing.
