TAMPA - Police arrested former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Cornell Green on domestic battery charges as he was about to board an airplane for Oakland on Saturday afternoon.
Police said Green, who plays for the Oakland Raiders, used an aluminum mop handle to hit Teriyonal Flowers, 30, who is the mother of two of Green's children, about 2:20 p.m. Saturday.
The incident started with an argument at their home, 10758 Plantation Bay Drive. Green slammed Flowers against a wall, and then used the mop handle to hit her at least once on the right arm, the Tampa Police Department said. Green then drove away.
Police learned he had a 5:30 p.m. flight to Oakland and arrested Green at Tampa International Airport before he boarded the plane.
Green, 32, is in the Orient Road Jail charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and is being held without bail, jail records show.
The Bucs Web site says Green played offensive line for three seasons in Tampa - 2002, 2003 and 2006. He played in 38 games and started in eight.
He joined the Raiders in 2007, the team's site says, and has also played for the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets.
