Initial police reports of a man shot while driving in unincorporated Manatee County appear to have been incorrect, and it is now believed the man's wounds were self-inflicted, Manatee County deputies say.
Initially, Bradenton police said a man driving north on U.S. 41 in unincorporated Manatee County was shot Monday afternoon by someone driving a black car. Police came to the 800 block of Eighth Avenue West in response to the shooting, and the victim was taken to Bayfront Medical Center.
But now it appears the shooting occurred at the victim's Bradenton home, in the 1700 block of 69th Avenue West, deputies say. They say the 55-year-old man tried driving himself to the hospital but was able to make it only to downtown Bradenton.
The man is in stable condition.
Those with information about the shooting can call deputies at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-8477.
