TAMPA - Universal Orlando Resort is offering Florida residents a 45 percent discount at three on-site, luxury hotels between April 19 and June 10 in the face of declining theme park attendance at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.
The hotel packages begin at $139 a night for accommodations at Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel.
The Universal deals parallel a strategy of special offers and enhancements that competitors Disney and Busch Entertainment have offered during the recession.
Attendance at Universal's two Orlando attractions fell a combined 4 percent for the quarter ending in December and 1.9 percent for 2008.
Universal is counting on the opening of its Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Roller Coaster this spring to provide a revenue boost to counter expenditures for the new attraction.
