TAMPA - Bay area motorists may see higher pump prices this week amid a surge in the cost of crude oil.
Oil prices are up 30 percent this month on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil closed Tuesday at $53.98 a barrel, up 18 cents.
In the Tampa Bay area, a gallon of regular unleaded is averaging $1.957 a gallon, up from $1.904 a month ago, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
Local retailers are charging $1.85 to $2.13 for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to gasbuddy.com, which uses volunteers to track pump prices in markets nationwide.
Nationally, motorists are paying $1.966 on average for a gallon of regular-grade gas, up from $1.91 one week ago, AAA said.
