NEW PORT RICHEY - The annual boat parade will anchor the second weekend of activities in Chasco Fiesta 2009.

The community festival will continue through Sunday with a multitude of events, including a kayak race, wine and art festival, golf tournament, country concert and more.

Chasco organizers are asking that visitors bring canned food and other nonperishable groceries for the Stock the Shelves food drive to help the needy. Donations will be accepted at the tent at Sims Park through Sunday.
Boat Parade
"March Madness" is the theme of the 87th annual Progressive Air/Carrier Chasco Boat Parade, which will start at 1 p.m. Saturday on the Pithlachascotee River between Port Richey and New Port Richey. Thousands of people line the river in New Port Richey's Sims Park to get a glimpse of the flotilla.

"We are very excited to have country singer, songwriter and radio personality Chad Brock of WQYK as our grand marshal of music," Brent Simon, chairman of the boat parade, says in a written announcement.

Boaters will compete for the $2,500 grand prize for best decorated vessel. Application forms can be printed online at www.chascoboatparade.com or picked up at the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce office.

A special award will be given to the best band performing on floats. Battle of the Bands entrants include Yellow Submarine, Grease, Woodstock and the Village People.
