A 28-year-old man is accused of firing a gun in a city neighborhood Wednesday night.
John Reuben Turbe Jr. of Tampa is charged with misdemeanor discharging a firearm in public and being a felon in possession of a firearm, among other charges, records show.
He was held at the Orient Road Jail today on $9,000 bail.
Tampa police were investigating a dog bite call about 8 p.m. Wednesday when they heard two gunshots coming from the 9400 block of Mulberry Street. When they approached, a witness told them a man wearing a red T-shirt had been shooting a gun, officials said.
The officers saw Turbe in the area and approached him, but he ran. They caught him on North 13th Street after a short chase, police said.
Police found a .38-caliber handgun thought to be the weapon fired in a yard on North 13th Street and submitted the gun to the crime lab, officials said.
Turbe threatened to shoot one of the officers during the arrest, police said.
