Clearwater police are searching for a bank robber who may have red dye on his hands or body.
The robber entered Bank United, 629 South Fort Harrison Avenue, at 9:15 a.m. and demanded money from the teller at gunpoint, spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said.
The teller hid a dye pack inside the bag. The dye pack exploded as the suspect fled on foot, Watts said. Officers found the dye pack discarded near the bank.
The suspect is described as 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, 160 to 180 pounds, in his late 30s or early 40s. He was wearing an LSW faded red hooded sweatshirt with a zippered front, baggy blue jeans, a dark-colored ball cap and black gloves, police said. He may have a goatee and was carrying a silver semi-automatic weapon.
Anyone with information is asked to call Clearwater Police at 727-562-4422.
