Michael Sarver got a crude awakening Thursday night from his "American Idol" life.
The 27-year-old oil rig worker from Jasper, Texas, made his final plea by belting out "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," but it just wasn't slick enough for the judges to overrule the votes of viewers.
Sarver was also in the bottom two last week, and put on a consensus weak performance in Wednesday night's performance round. Even sugary-sweet Paula Abdul chimed in, comparing Sarver to an old-school Vegas lounge act.
His unrefined reprisal of the Temptations classic didn't appear to tempt the judges to spend their one-time save of a low-vote getter. The four got their heads together for a moment, then Simon Cowell told the married father of two children: "Michael, you're going home. Sorry."
Man Accused Of Stalking Gymnast
A man who police say had guns, duct tape and love letters in his car when he tried to jump a security fence in an attempt to meet "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Shawn Johnson pleaded not guilty Thursday to stalking and other charges.
Robert O'Ryan was arrested Tuesday at the studio where the ABC show is produced. Los Angeles authorities say they found loaded guns, duct tape and love letters in a car he drove from Florida to meet Johnson, a 17-year-old Olympic gymnast.
O'Ryan, 34, was charged Thursday with one felony count of stalking and two misdemeanor counts of carrying a loaded gun in a vehicle.
His bail was raised from $35,000 to $220,000, and a trial date of April 27 was set.
A restraining order requested by Johnson's parents said she was "in fear of her life" and was issued Wednesday. A statement by Johnson's mother, Teri, states that she was told by police that O'Ryan thought he was meant to have a child with her daughter.
Madonna Returning To Malawi
Madonna is planning to adopt a second child from Malawi, officials said Thursday, but questions already have been raised over whether the newly divorced pop star will face obstacles because of her single mom status.
An official at the Malawi welfare department said the pop star had filed adoption papers in the southern African country. Another person in Malawi close to the case said Madonna would be there this weekend and a court could hear her adoption case as soon as Monday.
