TOWN 'N COUNTRY - Hillsborough County water officials say that about 460,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Sweetwater Creek on Wednesday after a pipe burst - the third time in a year the same area of pipe sent sewage into the waterway.

County workers plan to build a bypass as early as next week around the faulty 20-inch pipe along Comanche Avenue, just east of Hanley Avenue.

The other breaks happened in September and October, and prompted an investigation by Hillsborough County Water Resource Services. In addition to the bypass, the county plans to have the contractor replace the defective portion of the sewer line. That will cost about $300,000.

Who will pay for the emergency repairs is still to be determined, according to Michelle Van Dyke, spokeswoman for Hillsborough County Water Resource Services. She said the 9-month-old pipe is still under warranty.
