ORANGE CITY - Authorities say an Orange City police officer who was injured when a suicidal gunman shot up his cruiser will lose his left eye.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office reports that Officer Sherif El-Shami went to check on 38-year-old Bryan Langford on Wednesday. Langford fired several shots at the police cruiser, and El-Shami took shrapnel to the face. The shooting led to an 11-hour standoff, after which authorities found Langford and his girlfriend Cynthia Henderson dead.
Also discovered was the body of a man believed to be Henderson's son in a bar reportedly owned by the couple.
The sheriff's office says Langford committed suicide in a closet, surrounded by several guns.
