Cut-A-Thon Puts Pasco Kids First

A Trinity fundraiser this weekend will benefit abused children in Pasco County.

Aquaterra Salon and Spa, 7813 Mitchell Blvd. in Trinity, is opening its doors after business hours today to host a cut-a-thon fundraiser in support of Pasco Kids First. All proceeds from this event, scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m., will benefit the nonprofit organization "dedicated to the prevention, assessment and treatment of child abuse and neglect," according to a news release.

"Our owner Bob Lesko is very community-oriented and this is basically an outreach for us," said Jean Tolisano, receptionist at Aquaterra Salon and Spa. "This organization helps victims of child abuse, and we've been hearing so much about that today. We thought this would be a good organization to do a benefit for."

No appointments are necessary for the cut-a-thon, at which patrons will pay reduced prices for haircuts. Children's cuts, normally $15, will cost $10; cuts for men and teens, normally $20, will cost $12; women's cuts, usually $35, will cost $20.

"Our stylists are donating their time, and every penny earned, including tips, will go to Pasco Kids First," Tolisano said.

Rick Hess, executive director of Pasco Kids First, said money raised from this event will provide various services for abused and neglected children, including therapy, assessment and prevention.

"We're excited to work with Aquaterra," he said.

Rebecca Bennett, program manager of Pasco Kids First, agrees.

"April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Aquaterra searched us out to do this benefit," she said. "It's wonderful when people give back."
