Pickup Strikes, Kills Oldsmar Teen

A 15-year-old pedestrian from Oldsmar was killed Friday night after being hit by a pickup truck on Tampa Road about 200 yards west of the intersection with East Lake Woodlands Parkway.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, about 9:30 p.m., Erica Hansen stepped into the path of a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Reinaldo Heredia Jr., 41, of Tampa.
Hansen was taken to Mease-Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor where she later died. No other injuries were reported.
The accident, which closed eastbound lanes of Tampa Road for several hours, is still under investigation. Deputies say speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
