Town 'N Country Sewer Line Breaks For 4th Time

Published: March 28, 2009

A sewage line in Town 'n Country broke yet again this morning, spilling an unknown amount of raw sewage into Sweetwater Creek.

It's the fourth time the 20-inch line along Comanche Avenue has ruptured since September, according to Hillsborough County officials.

The break was discovered about 11:40 a.m., and workers stopped the flow of raw sewage about two hours later.

A temporary line will be built and placed into service in about two weeks, county officials said. Until the temporary line is completed, someone will be posted along Comanche Avenue 24 hours a day to look for additional breaks.

This month, county commissioners awarded a construction contract to replace the 750-foot section of line. Work on the $300,000 project will begin in a few weeks.

County officials are urging residents along the creek, which flows south to the Courtney Campbell Causeway area, not to have any contact with the water in the creek for several days.

Spectrum Underground, the contractor that installed the line, was on-site to make today's repairs.
