SARASOTA - A woman was injured today when she was struck by a section of stucco torn by wind gusts off a building near Five Points Park in downtown Sarasota.
The winds pried off the stucco, which was at least 2 feet wide, just after noon today from the seventh story of a newer high-rise structure in the 100 block of Central Avenue.
The woman was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for her injuries, and a second person was injured from flying debris, said Sarasota County Fire Capt. Mary Boutieller. The severity of injuries are not known at this time.
Authorities have barricaded a large area surrounding the building because loose stucco is visible and the winds have not let up, Boutieller said.
"It is still dangerous down there," she said.
