RUSKIN - The Florida Department of Transportation will host a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. today to discuss a proposed conceptual design to widen U.S. 41 North from 12th Street to Kracker Avenue in Gibsonton.
The meeting will be at the Resort & Club at Little Harbor, 611 Destiny Drive.
During the hearing, DOT personnel will discuss a study the agency is conducting to evaluate widening U.S. 41 from four to six lanes, adding auxiliary through lanes at two intersections, installing a raised median and constructing drainage ponds.
The total length of the proposed project is approximately 6.2 miles.
The need for this project was established after considering several factors.
One was an evaluation of the current and future ability of U.S. 41 to accommodate regional travel and its importance in providing system-wide linkage within the overall roadway network.
Another factor included an assessment of current and future social and economic demand and an evaluation of the quality of traffic operations in the study area, assuming no capacity improvements are constructed along this corridor.
