TAMPA - Ride the trolley or pedal a bicycle for an up-close, personal look at the "early years" of one of Tampa's historical bungalow neighborhoods.

The 11th annual Old Seminole Heights Home Tour on Sunday will highlight 13 historic properties, including 11 homes and the 1927 Gothic majesty of Hillsborough High School.

When built 79 years ago, the high school was among the largest in the country. A two-year project completed in 2006 by the Hillsborough County school district helped to restore the school's architectural glory.

A Virginia artisan restored the building's stained glass windows. Workers also removed drop ceilings, restored interior archways, polished terrazzo floors, uncovered Harlequin-pattern terrazzo in the auditorium and re-opened bricked-up windows.

A recent documentary featured the school and its renovation. Another documentary and the winter edition of American Bungalow magazine put the spotlight on Seminole Heights' history and the architectural styles of its early 1920s bungalows.

The high school is the tour's starting point for maps, tickets and trolley rides. A portion of the tour's proceeds are donated to a neighborhood charitable organization.
