A Silver Alert had been issued for a missing 72-year-old Clearwater man suffering from dementia, but he has since been found at a local hospital.
Pinellas County deputies say James L. Leonardo Jr. was admitted to the hospital Monday after hospital employees saw him in need of aid. He appears unharmed, and hospital officials haven't released information on his condition, deputies say.
Leonardo left his home on Sunrise Drive after 6 p.m. on Sunday in a rented, red 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
A deputy found Leonardo sleeping in the car behind Southern Auto and Truck Brokers, 32500 U.S. 19 N. in Palm Harbor about 2:30 a.m. Monday, but at that point Leonardo's family had not reported him missing. Leonardo seemed fine, the deputy wrote in his report, and allowed him to remain in the area.
Leonardo's family reported him missing about 8:30 p.m. Monday and said he suffers from dementia and had left without his daily medication.
