BROOKSVILLE - A man making pizza deliveries smashed through a fence Monday night, but failed to stop and report the damage, a report states.
A deputy was sent to Stewart's Tree Service on Croom Road around 8 p.m. to investigate the hit-and-run.
A witness to the crash had followed the suspect's Chevy Blazer from the damaged fence to the tree farm where the driver pulled over, a report shows.
The deputy found a Hungry Howie's delivery sign on the Blazer's front seat, along with a fresh pizza. But the Blazer's alleged driver, Kasey Pellage, had fled on foot into the tree farm, a report states.
The deputy called Hungry Howie's and received a cell phone number for the suspect from the manager.
A rendezvous was arranged at the Kangaroo gas station, where Pellage told a deputy he bought a beer following the crash. His only excuse for fleeing was that he "was scared," a report states. Pellage, 21, was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
