TAMPA - St. Petersburg police are looking for three people they say smashed a minivan into a hip-hop clothing store early Monday morning to commit a burglary.
The incident was captured on video, police said.
At about 3:45 a.m., the trio smashed a stolen Chrysler minivan into His and Hers Clothing at 2325 34th St. S., said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa.
The three then got out, but the minivan had not been left with its gear in park, so it started to lurch forward, Kajtsa said. The driver hopped back in and stopped the minivan before he and his two associates started loading roughly $1,000 worth of merchandise, Kajtsa said.
Then two of the suspects got back into the vehicle, and the driver started backing out of the store, Kajtsa said. However, the third suspect hadn't managed to climb back in yet, so he grabbed ahold of a door and was dragged a bit before he got in, Kajtsa said. In the rush to leave, the sliding door of the minivan was inadvertently left behind.
The driver was wearing a tan hat and purple jacket, the rear passenger a navy blue hoodie, and the front passenger baggy black shorts and a black jacket with a multicolor design, Kajtsa said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Kenneth Miller at (727) 892-5916 or the department's communication center at (727) 893-7780.
