NEW PORT RICHEY -
A youth pastor has been arrested, accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl he met at his church, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Scott Dewayne Wright, 35, of 6936 Echo Lake Drive, New Port Richey, was charged with two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Wright met the teen in 2006 when he was a youth pastor at the Calvary Chapel in New Port Richey, detectives say. Over the course of the year, Wright became friends with the girl.
Wright and the girl had sex on at least two occasions between September and November 2007 in a home in Palm Harbor, detectives say. The girl's parents found out after the girl's counselor told them, the sheriff's office said.
The parents then called the sheriff's office and detectives began their investigation in November. Wright turned himself in at the Pinellas County Jail on Monday.
He is being held on $20,000 bail.
