NEW PORT RICHEY - The Pasco County School District began the lengthy process Thursday of deciding who will attend a new high school under construction off State Road 52 and Canton Avenue in northwest Pasco.
A committee of principals, parents, other district officials and the school board chairman met in the media center at River Ridge High School to start working on attendance boundaries for the yet-to-be-named high school.
The high school, scheduled to open in August 2010, will draw students from Ridgewood, Hudson and River Ridge high schools. Gulf High School also could be affected as boundary lines for the other schools shift.
The committee will develop a proposal that will go to the school board for approval, probably in the late fall, said Chris Williams, the district's planning director. Once a proposal is developed, but before the board votes, the district will hold meetings for parents at the affected schools.
The committee plans to meet again May 18.
During the summer, Williams said he also wants to hold meetings to look at boundaries for all middle schools and high schools in west Pasco to see if adjustments need to be made. Any changes also would go before the school board in late fall.
