TAMPA - A division of General Electric will lay off 250 customer service workers in Tampa as it moves the work to other offices.
GE Money, which provides private-label credit cards to retailers, will shut its customer service center at 3802 Northdale Blvd. and lay off all of the workers there by June 29, according to a state Web site of mass layoffs.
Dori Abel, a GE Money spokeswoman, said the company is consolidating some of its customer service operations into other offices across the country. Some of the work now done in Tampa will be performed in a GE Money center in Kansas, Abel said.
Workers at the Tampa call center will be offered severance payments, job placement assistance and career counseling, Abel said.
