The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a 29-year-old scuba diver who vanished this afternoon about 21 miles west of Johns Pass in Treasure Island.
The agency received a call at about 12:50 p.m. from a crew member aboard a 24-foot recreational vessel dubbed Lori's Other Half who said the man had not surfaced, the Coast Guard said in a prepared statement.
The Coast Guard has dispatched a HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter, a 47-foot utility boat and an 87-foot patrol boat to search for the diver, the statement says.
The diver's name is being withheld because his family has not been told of his disappearance, the agency said. He was reportedly an experienced diver and was wearing a black wetsuit with black fins and a silver air tank at the time of his disappearance, the statement says.
In the Gulf, the waves are 1 to 2 feet high, the winds are blowing at 5 to 10 knots and visibility is about 10 miles.
