One dead in two Clearwater traffic accidents

CLEARWATER - Clearwater police are investigating two afternoon traffic crashes -- one fatal.
A man was speeding, lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree about 4:40 p.m. at Park Place and Drew Street, police spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said. The man died at the scene. Police have not released his name because relatives have not been notified.
The other crash happened about 2 p.m. Two people riding a motorcycle south on U.S. 19 at Gulf to Bay Boulevard were rear-ended by a vehicle. The motorcycle's driver and passenger were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Watts said. There names also weren't released.
