TAMPA - Led by quarterback Quet Shaw and receivers Tekeyah Clark and Kate Wicker, Plant City's flag football team rolled past Plant 31-13 in a first-round play-in game Saturday afternoon at Plant High.
Plant City (12-0), which was second in the state last year to Tallahassee Leon, hosts East Bay (9-2) on Tuesday. That winner advances to the state tournament Friday and Saturday at Boca Raton High.
Shaw found Clark for an 8-yard TD pass to start the scoring and opened the second quarter with a 35-yard scoring strike to Clark to make it 13-0. After Plant stalled, Shaw returned a punt 55 yards for a TD.
On the Raiders' first possession of the third quarter, Jessica Bullard scored on a 2-yard TD catch to make it 25-0.
"We knew Plant would be tough, but we were hungry all year," Plant City assistant coach Mike Scott said.
"With that quarterback and those receivers, it was women against girls," Plant coach Bo Puckett said. "They were just awesome."
