TAMPA - The next Clifton Smith? It could be Pat Carter, a wide receiver out of Louisville; Kareem Huggins, a running back out of Hofstra; or Amarri Jackson, a wide receiver out of South Florida.
Those three and four others - defensive end Jarriett Buie (USF), offensive lineman Marc Dile (USF), tackle Demar Dotson (Southern Miss) and cornerback Evan McCollough (James Madison) - signed with the Bucs on Monday after participating in the team's rookie minicamp over the weekend.
The Bucs also released three players, including wide receiver Paris Warren, who hasn't made it all the way back from the broken leg he suffered while catching a touchdown pass in the 2007 preseason finale.
Warren spent most of the 2008 season on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad and was re-signed by the Bucs this offseason. Also cut were offensive tackle Andre Douglas and cornerback Greg Fassitt.
Smith attended the Bucs' 2008 rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, much like the players signed Monday. He earned a roster spot with the Bucs and a berth in the Pro Bowl after becoming Tampa Bay's top return man for kicks and punts last season.
