A man suspected of shoplifting a video game stabbed a store manager in the hand and then led authorities on a chase through Brandon, authorities say.
Andro Rodriguez Rosado was caught stealing video games from Wal-Mart, 1208 E. Brandon Boulevard, about 11:45 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Here's what happened, according to sheriff's office spokesman J.D. Callaway:
Store security personnel detained Rosado, but he broke free and stabbed the store manager in the hand with a knife, jumped in his Chevrolet Cavalier and fled before deputies arrived. A sheriff's detective spotted Rosado's car at State Road 60 and Grand Regency Plaza Boulevard and gave chase.
Rosado tried to force a deputy's cruiser off the road near U.S. Highway 301 and Interstate 4. A driver tried to help deputies by using his pickup truck to block the I-4 entrance ramp to Interstate 75 and the Cavalier struck the rear of the truck, sending the car airborne briefly.
Rosado maintained control of the car and continued to speed away until he ran out of gas on I-4 near U.S. 301. A sheriff's helicopter saw Rosado walking away and he was taken into custody without incident near Maple Lane at 12:07 p.m.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash and left before deputies could talk to him.
Rosado faces a variety of felony charges, Callaway said.
